YOM IYUN on 5/10/17
Please join us for an in-service training, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Temple Akiba (Culver City). The topic: “Tears, Sweat, and Blood: Meaningful B’rit Milah (and Hattafat Dam B’rit) for Conversion.” Go here for details and registration.
STAFF CHANGES as of 1/1/17
Please join us in welcoming our new executive director, Dr. Muriel Dance! She comes to us with experience in nonprofit management and academic administration, plus she has served as an educator and hospice chaplain. Meanwhile, Rabbi David E. S. Stein has left our staff to pursue other interests. We thank him for his 6 years of service.
UPDATED OPERATING PRINCIPLES as of 11/2/16
We have updated our Operating Principles to reflect current conditions, as well as recently adopted policies and our current practices. You can read or download this basic document here.
POLICY TO MAINTAIN ETHICAL OVERSIGHT as of 2/3/16
All of our participating rabbis shall be a member of one of the professional rabbinic associations that would qualify them for membership in the Board of Rabbis of Southern California. (This is in addition to actually maintaining membership in that board of rabbis.) REASON: To ensure that all of our sponsoring rabbis and active dayanim are subject to an established professional ethics review procedure.
NON-COMPENSATION POLICY as of 2/3/16
When a conversion is conducted under our auspices, our participating rabbis shall not accept compensation (including non-monetary gifts) for serving on the panel. They must not state or imply to the candidate that their endorsement is conditional upon the candidate’s making any donations or payments other than for our administration fee and for the Mikveh fee. REASON: To protect the integrity and reputation of all conversions under our auspices. Nothing should be done that would imply that a conversion was purchased, or that might pressure our panel to say “yes” to a candidate who is otherwise unfit.
• Maintaining Eligibility
